Estheticians that wants ‘great’ results for their clients but at a fraction of the cost!

If you are an Esthetician reading this then I am sure your main objective is to deliver great quality skin care results to your client.  But are you confused about what tools to use in your Spa?  Does the expense of leasing a new fancy machine scare you and you wonder if you could get the same results by using something just as effective, but maybe a bit better on your wallet?

What's an Esthetician to do?

Shelley Hancock has been a licensed Esthetician since 1988 and owns her own advanced training facility where she can be that teacher/mentor to encourage and train you to be the best that you can be!…

How different cultures come into play in our spa

I am going to write something that little bit different today but it’s still a topic that no matter what industry you are in will become of importance. If you are living and working in the U.S you will have come to realize that in most parts of the country, especially California, New York and Washington that it is very diverse.

I feel very, very blessed that throughout my life I have not lived in a bubble but have had the ability and the means to meet many different cultures as i have traveled to many different parts of the world.  …

Esthetician Jobs

As professionals in the beauty industry we take pride in our image and reputations. Why do we then use a general “listing” website to advertise job openings when those sites ‘can’ cater to every creeper out there?

I want to introduce myself and my new company that has just launched for Estheticians.  We are an ‘industry’ specific website that monitors all employers who post job postings and all employees that are searching for employment and posting resumes.

It has been created because of some unseemly experiences that I have encountered in the past as an Esthetician and from some bad experiences that co-workers or employers have had with not so desirable characters trolling “general” websites, you know,  the kind of website where you can receive anything from a sexual encounter to buying a lampshade all under the same roof!…

Boasting Basement

As we wander the streets peddling our wares, we may stumble across a fantastic Spa or Salon with great ambience and energy, a great receptionist who does cartwheels to impress or a massage therapist who irons out the cricks in the neck.

You may even be a mentor or Spa business coach who might have caught our fancy on Twitter,  so ‘yes’ this little English bird’s team will be tweeting  good vibes from the rooftops.

For this reason alone we think you deserve a “shout out”.  We all love recognition from time to time and we are saving the boasting basement for those we feel deserve it. …

silence your cell in the spa

How do you deal with the annoying cell phone user in your spa?

1. Do you have a basket at the door for all visitors to your spa allowing them to dump their cell in there waiting for their exit before they can get their sticky paws on them again?

2. Or, do you have nicely plastered images all over your spa warning people to silence their cell when entering the spa?

3. Do you have an invisible beam across the door way that zaps their shins when they pass the area with a cell phone that is not silenced?…

can you blow that bubble just a bit bigger?

I feel bad for the young people of today who might have never recieved any mentoring about how to behave socially.  You know the how to live ‘life in general’ how to behave ‘publicly’ or how to read ‘body language’…it seems that more and more young people are fending for themselves and only communicating through texts, Facebook etc.   All of these tools are great to use and I for one use them.  But, I am proud to say that I had a foundation built on how to treat people, what not to say and to treat people like I would like to be treated before being plunged into the technology world.…

Hummus for the skin!

Hummus is not just good with chips, but great for the skin too!

Some of us are cursed with those speckled brown spots on our hands and face due to ageing or from too much UVA exposure causing hyper-pigmentation. There are lots of amazing products out there on our shelves to help diminish the appearance of age spots. But due to the wonderful flavour of Hummus, its creamy consistency and wonderful lightening properties that it has on the skin – I would like to share with you two recipes where Hummus can help brighten up your skin and won’t give you a double chin!…

Would I hire you in my spa?

In today’s economy, most employers are bombarded with resumes from keen and eager job seekers.  The average employer spends around ten seconds looking at your resume.  As negative as this may sound, most employers due to work overload, interviewing and sifting through the mass pile of resumes are actually looking for a reason to ‘not’ interview you.

In this increasingly competitive job market you must have a professional resume in order to stand out from your competition.  The sole purpose of your resume is to make a good impression, with the hopes of obtaining an interview.

Scratch n sniff at the spa

I wish this blog would come with a “scratch n sniff” link, but unless Microsoft get their heads together and create such a feature, you will have to use your imagination instead!

For over 10 years I have been working in the Spa or Salon industry in some capacity. During this time I have also on many occasions tried to frequent as many Spa’s on my days off for some ‘me’ time. You know that time when you want to be made to feel ooooh so special and loved as your worries and concerns with the world are drifted away into oblivion by the sounds of the dolphins or the waves lashing against the rocks?

Spa uniforms in the Spa and why it is important!

Can you take me seriously?

“Clothes make the man”, this might be an old adage but it is one that you cannot escape from.  Clothing has a powerful energetic effect and it very quickly formulates someone’s opinion of you.  If they have nothing else to go on, then clients will come up with some pretty amazing theories about you, merely on the basis of your appearance.

When a client comes to see you for the first time, she has a certain expectation about that therapist.  Of course the client expects the therapist to be competent and if your appearance tells them that you are, then you are over the first hurdle immediately, before you even open your mouth.…
